Product Self-Training¶
Every agent uses the LAIRA app before they sell it. No exceptions.
The fastest way to sell a product is to know it cold from the customer's seat. This file is the self-training protocol for getting there.
Day 1 — Install and first scan (30 minutes)¶
- Download LAIRA from the Apple App Store on an iPhone 12 Pro or newer, or iPad Pro M1+
- Sign up for the Free tier (no payment required)
- Pick a scan target. Best for first scan:
- A small parking lot (50-200 spaces)
- A stretch of sidewalk near your office (200-500 feet)
- The driveway / asphalt approach to your building
- Run a 5-minute scan. Open the app, tap "New Scan," walk the route.
- Watch the point cloud build in real time. Notice how the app classifies distresses as they appear.
- Save the scan. End the session, name it, save.
Day 2 — ArcGIS connection (30 minutes)¶
- Sign up for ArcGIS Online (free trial available at esri.com/arcgis-online/trial)
- In LAIRA app, go to Settings → ArcGIS Connection
- Connect your ArcGIS Online tenant (paste the API key from your ArcGIS account)
- Push yesterday's scan to ArcGIS
- Open ArcGIS Online in a browser and find the feature service that just appeared
- Click a feature — see the per-distress data with cited standards
Day 3 — Output formats (30 minutes)¶
- Open the scan from Day 1
- Export to PDF — open the resulting PDF; review the audit-grade citations
- Export to IFC — see what comes out (the IFC won't open without a BIM viewer, but the export confirms it works)
- Export to CSV — open in Google Sheets / Excel; see the row-level data
- Push to ArcGIS again — confirm the round-trip
Day 4 — Compliance citations (30 minutes)¶
- Open the PDF report from Day 3
- Find the first cited standard in the report (e.g., "ASTM D6433 §X1.14.2")
- Open docs.airwai.com in a browser
- Navigate to the compliance matrix for that standard
- Find the matrix row corresponding to the specific section cited
- Verify the chain: product cite → matrix row → source standard
You should be able to do this loop in 2 minutes after a week of practice. This is the core of LAIRA's pitch.
Day 5 — Failure modes + edge cases (45 minutes)¶
Things that go wrong, and what to do:
| Issue | What's happening | Resolution |
|---|---|---|
| Scan doesn't start | iPhone Pro / iPad Pro device check failed (LiDAR not detected) | Confirm device is iPhone 12 Pro+ or iPad Pro M1+. Older devices won't work. |
| GPS jitter in scan | GPS sensor noise; common in urban canyons or under canopy | Acceptable; LAIRA fuses LiDAR + IMU to maintain spatial integrity even with GPS jitter |
| ArcGIS push fails | Token expired or wrong permissions in ArcGIS tenant | Reconnect ArcGIS in LAIRA Settings; check tenant permissions |
| App crash mid-scan | Memory pressure on older Pro devices | Restart app; close other apps; try a shorter scan |
| Distress classified incorrectly | Detection model edge case | Flag in app feedback; logs to product team |
| Long scan duration | More than 60 minutes per scan | App can handle 4+ hours; battery is the real limit |
| Offline scan | No internet during scan | Captures locally; syncs when back online |
Test as many of these scenarios as you can. Knowing the failure modes makes you credible when customers hit them.
Day 6 — Persona-specific use case practice (60 minutes)¶
Pick the persona you'll be calling on most. Do their scan:
| Persona | Scan |
|---|---|
| Maya — Municipal pavement | Scan a 1,000-ft stretch of arterial road with mixed AC + PCC; compute PCI per section |
| Daniel — AEC field engineer | Scan a parking lot at a commercial property; produce a PCI + ADA report |
| Sarah — ADA / PROWAG | Scan 500 ft of sidewalk with curb ramps; produce PROWAG compliance report |
| James — Airport ops | Scan an apron or taxiway segment (if you have access); produce a D5340-compatible report |
| Carmen — Industrial facility | Scan a forklift operating lane in a warehouse; produce OSHA 1910.178-mapped condition report |
You don't need to do all five. Do one in depth.
Day 7 — Live customer demo prep (60 minutes)¶
- Pick a scan to use in your demo. A clean, well-organized scan that shows multiple distresses + multiple compliance citations.
- Practice the demo script. sales-playbook/demo-script.md.
- Run a recorded mock demo. Pretend you're showing it to a customer. Record yourself. Watch the playback.
- Refine. Identify where you stumbled, where you over-explained, where you under-explained.
By the end of Day 7, you should be able to deliver a 15-min demo from a single iPhone Pro + ArcGIS Online without referring to notes.
Ongoing — daily product use¶
Every agent should be using LAIRA at least once a week even after onboarding. Why: - Product changes every 2 weeks (new app release); you need to know what's new - New compliance matrices land on docs.airwai.com regularly; the product surface widens - Real customer questions get hands-on accurately only when you've recently used the product
Block 30 minutes a week to use the app. It's the highest-ROI training investment.
When you're ready¶
You're ready to take live calls when:
- You can scan a surface end-to-end and explain every step in plain language
- You can push to ArcGIS and articulate where the data lives
- You can open the PDF report and trace a citation back to docs.airwai.com
- You can describe at least 2 failure modes and what to tell a customer who hits them
- You can deliver a 15-min demo without notes
- You can answer "does it work with [my device / my workflow]" with confidence
If any of these aren't true yet, take another half-day on product self-training before going live.
Continuous learning¶
After Day 14, attend Airwai's product update sessions:
- Every 2 weeks: app release notes shared in Slack
#airwai-product - Monthly: product roadmap update (Manomit hosts a 30-min walkthrough)
- Quarterly: deep-dive on new compliance matrices or feature releases
The agents who consistently outperform their peers are the ones who continue to use the product themselves and read every product update.
